Volkswagen EcoRacer: 100mpg supercar

Slick concept coupé is fast and eco-friendly too

OK ’supercar’ is a slight exaggeration, but Volkwagen’s new EcoRacer can reach 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds – not bad for a car that also returns 100mpg.

Powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Volkswagen EcoRacer is just a concept right now. But VW says its going to gauge public reaction to the car at the Tokyo Motor Show this week. If positive, sales of the production version are expected to start within the next three years.
