BT Vision has become the latest internet TV service to offer HD downloads over broadband.

The British telephone company has teamed up with NBC Universal to offer a range of brand new movies for £4.95 each, and back catalogue titles for £2.95. No additional subscription is required.

BT Vision’s move follows the announcement last week that Apple was to offer HD downloads to Mac and PC users. UK owners of Apple TV set-top boxes have been able to download HD content since June 2008.

High definition content can be displayed in either 720p or 1080i via the BT Vision V-box. The NBC Universal deal enables you to watch your chosen movies as many times as you like during the 48-hour rental period.

Former HD DVD pioneer Toshiba is also expected to debut its HD movie download store this month - an announcement was due to be made at IFA 2008, but was postponed.
