I’m a freelance journalist, copywriter and editor with over 17 years’ experience producing content for a wide range of consumer print and online publications.¬â€
I’m professional, enthusiastic and highly motivated. I’m currently looking for freelance or permanent editorial, PR and copywriting opportunities.
CAREER HISTORY
June 2008 to present - Freelance Journalist, Copywriter and Editor
I currently work with a wide range of consumer and business publications, writing original news, review and feature pieces for TechRadar, Grand Designs Magazine, MacFormat, Macworld and iGizmo, as well as B2B titles Business Matters and The Works. My most recent assignment has been to work with a London PR agency, producing high quality press releases for a major blue chip company’s 2009 marketing campaign.
January 2006 to Jun 2008 - Associate Editor, TechRadar
Working closely with the editor, I helped this major technology new website soar from launch to over one million unique users per month. My day-to-day responsibilities included writing attention-grabbing news, reviews and features articles; managing a news team of four reporters; and representing the website on local and national media such as BBC Radio 1. A major part of my role involved the development of key industry, PR and journalist relationships, while working with the advertising department to promote the title. I also represented the website at major consumer and trade events.
January 2005 to January 2006 - Development Editor, Future Publishing
Worked as a key member of a highly-experienced and dedicated team on a major consumer launch. My day-to-day responsibilities involved working closely with industry contacts in consumer technology and PR, while also establishing and managing a network of freelance journalists who I commissioned to produce content for us. I also represented Future Publishing on national and local TV and radio, and at major consumer and trade events.
May 2002 to December 2005 - Freelance Technology Editor
I worked as a key member of the launch editorial team for Digital Home Magazine, with day-to-day responsibility for writing original news, review and feature content; developing key industry and PR contacts and managing a network of freelancers. During this period I also had articles published in a wide range of consumer titles including Grand Designs Magazine, T3, Stuff, MacFormat, PC Format, PC Plus, Laptop and BBC Focus. Other achievements during this period include interim editorships on Digital Home Magazine, Digital Camera Magazine, and on a short-deadline supplement for PC Plus.
April 1997 to May 2002 - Reviews Editor and Editor, T3
I joined T3 as reviews editor when the magazine was still very new, and worked tirelessly with industry contacts, PRs and journalists to help raise the title’s profile. I also represented the magazine on local and national radio on TV – including regular slots on CNBC and The Steve Wright Show. My day-to-day responsibilities included news, review and feature writing, as well as finding, managing and commissioning regular contributors. When I became editor of T3 in June 2000, I continued to promote the magazine’s interests at major industry events, as well as fostering strong industry, PR and media contacts. During this period, I also achieved the highest ever issue sale for T3 – a record that’s only relatively recently been broken.
